Bouken Shounen summary:
These stories share a single common thread: a protagonist who has grown up returning to face their childhood memories. It is a poignant reflection on the loss of youth, the disillusionment of aging, and a yearning for better times. Of particular note in the Adachi canon is how this theme of "youth" takes on a rare but diametric form, exploring youth as viewed through the lens of the past. It is a powerful message that may even serve as an acknowledgment of Adachi's own encroaching age. While the plots and characters themselves may not stand out, what truly impresses is how Adachi masterfully crafts these tales - a facet of experience that only comes with age. Indeed, multiple readings may be necessary to truly appreciate the tightness of the plot and the recurring visual motifs.
