Chibi Maruko-chan summary:
"Chibi Maruko-chan" made its debut in Ribon, a shoujo manga magazine, in August 1986. Prior to this, the author had already shared semi-autobiographical tales in Ribon and Ribon Original in 1984 and 1985, which were later compiled and included in "Chibi Maruko-chan's" first tankōbon release in 1987. During her final year of senior high school, the author submitted comic strips to Shueisha with the intention of creating "essays in manga form." However, it took over a year for Shueisha to decide to run the strips. The stories are often inspired by the author's personal experiences, with some characters based on real-life family and friends. The honest, relatable, and nostalgic tone of "Chibi Maruko-chan" resonated with a diverse audience, leading to its widespread popularity.
